There are three primary areas within Human Services – Social Services, Child Support and Public Assistance.

The Social Service Unit provides the following services: Child Protection, Child Welfare, Child Care, Chemical Health Services, Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Adult Services. The services primarily involve completing assessments or investigations, developing individual case plans, contracting for services and case management.

The Child Support Unit provides five major services to public and non-public assistance applicants, all with the purpose of assisting with child support collections. Services include paternity determination, parent location, support obligation establishment, enforcement, and distribution.

The Public Assistance Unit provides financial support to elderly, disabled and low-income residents of Renville County. It determines eligibility for public assistance programs such as General Assistance, Minnesota Family Investment Program, Diversionary Work Program, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Emergency Assistance, Emergency General Assistance, Minnesota Supplemental Aide and Group Residential Housing.

The Renville County Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA) is committed to providing its residents with safe and affordable housing. If you or someone you know has low or moderate income and is looking for help with the cost of rent, the Renville County HRA/EDA may be able to help. Renville County offers two different programs; Housing Choice Vouchers (often time referred to as Section 8) allows housing clients to rent from a private landlord and a portion of the rent is paid directly to the landlord and Public Housing refers to living in a unit operated by the Housing Authority, they are located only in the communities of Franklin, Morton and Sacred Heart. Often times there is a waiting list for both programs.

Veterans Services assists in obtaining federal and state veteran’s benefits, finding medical care at the various veteran’s administration hospitals, and transportation to the Minneapolis and St. Cloud Veteran’s Administration Medical Centers. Provides assistance in filing claims for service connections, and death and burial benefits.
