Welcoming Two New Leaders to Our Board: Briana Mumme and Christopher Corbett

We’re excited to welcome two outstanding professionals to our board of directors: Briana Mumme and Christopher Corbett. Each brings a wealth of experience, a deep commitment to community, and a passion for building a stronger, more vibrant region.

Briana Mumme: Champion for Rural Economic Development

Briana Mumme joined the Southwest Initiative Foundation (SWIF) in 2024 as Economic Development Manager, bringing nearly a decade of experience in rural development. Previously, she served as the Economic Developer for Redwood County for seven years, where she led key initiatives to support local businesses and foster sustainable growth.

At SWIF, Briana leads innovative programs that span business finance, entrepreneurship, workforce development, and broader regional economic strategies. Her leadership doesn’t stop there—she’s a member of the Governor’s Task Force on Broadband and the Minnesota Agriculture and Economic Development Board. She also holds leadership roles in organizations such as the Minnesota Association of Professional County Economic Developers (MAPCED), where she is a past president, and LINC Redwood County, where she currently serves as president.

Briana lives in Franklin with her husband Matt and their two children. When she’s not working to strengthen rural Minnesota, she enjoys hiking, trying out new restaurants, and staying active with bungee fitness classes.

Christopher Corbett: Planning with People in Mind

Christopher Corbett joined the City of Willmar in late 2023 as Director of Planning and Development. A seasoned urban planner and strategist, Christopher is committed to shaping communities that reflect the voices and values of the people who live in them.

Before coming to Willmar, he served as a Senior Planner for the City of Pittsburgh, contributing to housing policy, neighborhood plans, and city-wide development initiatives. He holds a Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Michigan, with a strong foundation in business and planning.

In his new role, Christopher is focused on breaking down barriers to development and managing a wide range of projects that promote inclusive growth. He also serves as the Central District Director for the American Planning Association (APA) Minnesota, where he advocates for equitable, community-centered planning practices throughout the state.
