When people think about construction, they often picture the work happening on-site—but by the time we break ground, there are usually months or even years of planning already behind us. In Construction Services, I work alongside a team of incredibly knowledgeable and dedicated people who help move projects from an idea to a finished home. Recently, we’ve been managing redevelopment and rehabilitation work in communities including Welcome, Trimont, Chokio, and Westbrook, while also supporting projects in Luverne, St. James, Fairmont, Pipestone, Dawson, and St. Peter. Some projects are small rehabs, while others are brand-new homes or multi-family developments—but every one of them serves an important purpose.
What makes this work meaningful is that no two projects are ever alike. Every community has different needs, every site has different challenges, and every project comes with its own mix of funding, timelines, contractors, and partners. My team spends a great deal of time balancing budgets, coordinating schedules, managing bids, and adapting to things we cannot control, like weather or product delays. The only way to make that work is through strong communication and trust. We work closely with contractors, property owners, city and county staff, and residents to keep everyone informed and moving in the same direction.
What I am most proud of is the care this team brings to every project, no matter the size. A single-family rehab receives the same attention and commitment as a large apartment development. At the end of the day, what motivates us is seeing a vacant lot become a home, or an aging building given new life. That is where SWMHP’s values come through most clearly: people working together, innovation rooted in quality and sustainability, and the belief that everyone deserves a place to call home.
